Say it with Color

Have you ever wondered why certain colors seem to relax you, while others put a little pep in your step? Every color has a meaning and emotion attached to it.  Use this in your decorating to evoke a mood and make a personal style statement.

Meanings of Color

Colors themselves do not have meaning, but we have culturally assigned meanings to them. For example, red means warmth because of the color of fire. Likewise, it also means anger because of the increased redness of the face when we get mad.

Check out some of the meanings of color below and decide how you can use this information to help you decorate your home!

RED: warmth, love, anger, danger, boldness, excitement, speed, strength, determination, desire, courage

ORANGE: cheerfulness, low cost, affordability, enthusiasm, stimulation, creativity

YELLOW: attention-grabbing, comfort, liveliness, cowardliness, hunger, optimism, overwhelm, Summer, intellect, happiness, energy

GREEN: durability, reliability, environmental, luxurious, optimism, well-being, nature, calm, relaxation, Spring, safety, honesty, harmony, freshness

BLUE: peace, professionalism, loyalty, reliability, honor, boredom, coldness, Winter, depth, stability, trust

PURPLE: power, royalty, nobility, elegance, sophistication, artificial, luxury, mystery, magic

GRAY: conservatism, traditionalism, intelligence, serious, dull, uninteresting

BROWN: relaxing, confident, casual, reassuring, nature, earthy, solid, reliable, genuine, Autumn, endurance

BLACK: Elegance, sophistication, formality, power, strength, illegality, depression, morbidity, night

WHITE: Cleanliness, purity, newness, virginity, peace, innocence, simplicity, sterility, snow

Create an interesting centerpiece fast:

Use a medium size flat mirror that you may already have, or buy a mirror disk, or two (or three) at the dollar store as your base.  Scatter cinnamon sticks, and votive candles in the color or colors of your choice on the mirror.

The candlelight will be reflected for a pretty, all over glow.  The cinnamon adds a nice look and wonderful aroma.
